Is microneedling really worth it? lets talk about it.

By Viva Aesthetics

As a mom of five, small business owner, and licensed skin nerd, I’m here to tell you—your time and money are precious. So when it comes to skincare treatments, you deserve the truth: Is microneedling actually worth it?

The short answer?

Yes. 100 times yes.

(And I’m not just saying that because I love poking faces with tiny needles.)

Let’s break it down.

What Is Microneedling, Really?

Microneedling—also known as collagen induction therapy—is a minimally invasive treatment where we use a device with tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin.

Sounds intense, but your skin is smart—it responds by ramping up collagen and elastin production, two proteins that keep your skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

In plain mom-speak?

It tricks your skin into acting younger.

(And honestly, I wish parenting worked the same way.)

The Benefits (aka Why Clients Are Obsessed)

Microneedling can help with:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne scarring

  • Large pores

  • Stretch marks

  • Rough texture

  • Uneven tone

  • Mild skin laxity (that slight “why is everything sliding south” feeling)

It also boosts the absorption of your skincare products. Meaning, when you invest in those fancy serums? Microneedling makes sure they actually get where they need to go.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

You’ll often see some glow after just one treatment (hi, instant gratification!).

BUT for long-term, major changes—like softer scars or firmer skin—a series of 3–6 sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart is ideal.

Think of it like working out: one session is great, but a regular schedule brings the transformation.

What About Downtime?

You’ll look a little red and feel a bit tight for 24–72 hours after microneedling—like a light sunburn. Totally normal!

Most people are back to normal activities the next day, just with a few post-care rules like avoiding makeup, sweating, and sun exposure for a few days.

(And yes, if you’re chasing kids around, this treatment fits in your life. I promise.)

Who’s a Good Candidate?

Microneedling is safe for almost all skin types and tones, making it one of the most inclusive treatments out there. Whether you’re battling post-baby melasma, teenage acne scars (yep, still there), or just noticing that your “glow” has turned into “why do I look tired all the time,” microneedling could be a great option for you.

Of course, we’ll customize everything during your consultation—because no two faces (or schedules!) are the same.

So… Is It Worth It?

Absolutely.

Microneedling is one of the few treatments that actually changes your skin from the inside out. It’s science-backed, time-tested, and gives results that keep building over time.

My Personal Experience …

About 10 years ago shortly after the birth of my twins, I had my first real experience with acne. I was 27 years old, my hormones were whack and I had a jawline full of cystic acne. It was painful, it was embarrassing and it was definitely a confidence killer! It took over a year to get the acne component under control but after I was left with scarring and hyperpigmentation because I picked against my better judgment. A few years later I decided to give Microneedling a whirl and I am so glad I did! I started out with a series of treatments close together and within a year you would have never known I had a jawline full of hyperpigmentation and acne scarring. Microneedling gave me my confidence back! Now I treat myself a couple times a year on average and it is hands down the most popular treatment I offer.
